A bit of a plug
May. 6th, 2018 12:55 amOld friends of mine from my LJ days might remember four or five years ago I wrote a novelette called Other Voices. It was meant to be the first in a series of urban weird/fantasies set in contemporary Birmingham, more influenced by Who and Sapphire & Steel than most things in the UF subgenre. The character of Jon Furze (a fiddler and storyteller, a supernatural troubleshooter of sorts) had been with me ever since my teens - he's probably the closest I'll ever get to writing anything like a hero. I made him and Kate, the POV character who gets embroiled in Jon's world, trans; Alice, Jon's lover, a WOC. I loved and love them all dearly. I wanted to take British UF away from the streets of London and celebrate my home city in all its glory. Tried to hawk it around a few markets and it just bounced. I lost heart and put the thing away. Any road, I managed to sell it a short while ago to Midnight Street Press for their Night Light anthology! I'm pleased to tell you the book is now out. Here are UK and US Amazon links if you'd like to buy it (it's also available as an ebook):
